Immigration:
  • Join us at the rally in Reading this Saturday March 18!
  • We're also continuing to call legislators to speak out about the importance of immigration. Numbers and scripts:
    • Call Representative Stephen Bloom - 717-249-1990 (Talking Point: Vote NO on SB 10 and other anti-immigrant bills. Immigrants boost, and grow economy not drain it. Immigrant communities have lower crime rates than other cities. See Immigrant Messaging Points… attachment above for more talking points.)
    • Call Senator Mike Regan – 717-787-8524 (Talking Point: Vote NO  on all anti-immigrant bills. Immigrants boost, and grow economy not drain it. Immigrants are far less likely to commit crimes than native-born people in our nation. See attachment above for more talking points.)
    • Call House Republicans who voted for HBI 185, an anti-immigrant bill similar to SB 10, with a growing immigrant communities.(Talking Point: Vote NO on all anti-immigrant bills or face the consequences during election time. Immigrants boost, and grow economy not drain it. Immigrants are far less likely to commit crimes than native-born people in our nation. See Immigrant Messaging Points… attachment above for more letter writing ideas.)
      • Gene Digirolamo - 215-750-1017
      • Harold English – 412-487-6605
      • Kate Harper - 610–277-3230
      • Thomas Murt - 215-674-3755
      • Alexander Charlton – 610-544-9878
      • Guy Reschenthaler, who sponsored the bill, is not included on the list. He doesn’t have a growing immigrant community and will not budge on the bill.
    • Call House Democrats who voted for HB1885, a bill similar to SB 10. (SB 10 and other anti-immigrant bills are inhumane, and unconstitutional. Will you focus instead on access to healthcare, fair wages, and education, that are important to the community? See attachment above for more talking points.)

Executive Team:
#CallToAction: DEMAND INVESTIGATION OF RUSSIA'S INTERFERENCE IN THE US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!  Call or email YOUR US HOUSE REP for 2 things.
The asks of our reps:
  1. Publicly support the current HOUSE INTELLIGENCE Committee investigation and coordinate this investigation with the SENATE INTELLIGENCE Committee investigation. Ask that the Department of Justice turn over all relevant material on Donald Trumps conflicts and his campaign's connection to Russian intervention in our election.
  2. Publicly support creation of an independent investigation by a SPECIAL COMMISSION (like after 9-11), to ensure fair results.
BACKGROUND: Both Intelligence Committees - HOUSE and SENATE - are chaired by Republicans who can control both the scope of the investigation and the reporting of results. On the other hand, A SPECIAL COMMISSION is people outside of Congress, such as former judges and law enforcement and military officials. Such a commission could subpoena documents and witnesses and hold hearings to examine Russian interference in the election.

On the shooting of Congressman Scalise

So much happened in these past two weeks since we’ve seen you last, but I want to take a moment to talk about the shooting of Congressman Steve Scalise and 4 others at the republican congressional team’s baseball practice in Alexandria, VA on Wednesday morning. I think I speak for everyone in this room and for Cumberland Valley Rising when I say that we condemn this violent and cowardly attack, and that our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during their long road to recovery, both physical and emotional. Sadly, this episode is one in a long line of violent attacks born out of the increasing political and cultural polarization over the past several years. It is not an isolated incident—this is NOTHING NEW. We condemn this attack. Just as we condemned the stabbing of three brave men in Portland a few weeks ago, who intervened on behalf of two young Muslim women who were being attacked by an Islamophobe. This attack resulted in the death o...
