Weekly Actions: Calls to House (this week) and Senate (next week) around the AHCA Vote- Call your members of Congress TODAY and urge them to vote against this dangerous replacement.  Stephen Bloom Townhall- Thursday, 3/23 @ 7 PM The Human Rights SC will be attending and asking Rep. Bloom questions at his Town Hall this Thursday at 7pm. Dickinson Township Bldg, 219 Mountainview Rd. Mt Holly Springs. STAND WITH PP- A significant aspect of the new ACA plan is that it will defund PP by taking away Medicaid funding from healthcare providers such as PP. This will directly affect individuals' abilities to receive STD screening/testing, Cancer screenings, and contraceptive care.  If you have a story to share about how PP helped you please send to Lindsey at lindsmauldin@gmail.com  Tuesdays with Toomey Immigration Rally -- Tuesday 3/28 at 12 at Capitol Steps in Harrisburg-- CVR will be speaking at the rally and then will be delivering statues with signed notes from CVR members

1:00 PM  |  The Ribbon Mill, 320 E Louther St, Carlisle, PA   AGENDA     1:00 - 1:15  Welcome: Overview of agenda & Announcements (Email, book/movie group sign up, policy action items)       1:15-1:45 Presentation by Prof. Stephanie Jirard: Prof. Jirard will be speaking with us about criminal justice practices that lead to wrongful convictions and how to hold prosecutors accountable for the awesome power they wield. The three subtopics are: cellmate confessions, withholding exculpatory evidence, and death-qualification of capital juries.   1:45-2:15 Coffee, Calendar, and Policy & Advocacy Actions: Mingle, enjoy coffee, add any important upcoming events to the group calendar, write a postcard, or complete a Policy & Advocacy action item.   2:15-3:00 Committee Sessions: For those who are interested, Committees will be checking in and working in their subcommittees as appropriate. We have a little less committee time this week than usual.

Regular committees will meet during the second half of this meeting. Our speaker this week is Professor Stephanie Jirard, of Shippensburg University and Penn State Dickinson School of Law. Speaker Notes: Professor Jirard begins by reveling in the defeat of the GOP plan to replace the ACA, noting that it was the work of individuals putting a human face on healthcare that made all the difference. Putting a human face on injustices in the practice of law can have the same effect. The issue is a lack of balance, in that prosecutors, through “prosecutorial discretion,” wield more power than anyone else in the justice system, including defense attorney
